We congratulate Archit Shah for getting 3rd rank in CA Final (Old Course). He says that the reason for his success is hard work, smart preparation, parents’ and friends’ support and faith in god. For now he wants to get a job. He is planning to do Financial Risk Management (FRM) course. We thank Archit for agreeing to give his interview. Here goes the interview:

I was sure of clearing the exams this time as my papers were good compared to last time except MAFA paper which was comparatively tougher than last 3 attempts. I was expecting to get a rank but I was not expecting 3rd rank. I did my best and performed well and I’m very happy with my result.

My marks were:

I studied most of the subjects from ICAI’s study material and I referred to Compilation as well. I also referred Revision Test Paper issued by the institute.

I used to study daily and always tried to utilize the time available. I also discussed some topics with friends and we used to clear each other doubts. I did writing practice by solving 2 papers of each of the subjects. I used to solve practical problems on my own. I also referred to the past questions asked by institute. I concentrated on the latest amendments and latest case laws for Direct tax and Indirect tax.

We should be sincere enough to ensure that we clear CA exams by thoroughly preparing each subject. I will like to suggest that:

• When you first time do a topic do it thoroughly so that you have to spend less time when you revise next time
• For long questions or topics have a habit of making your own small notes of concepts or provisions or head points of answers, that will speed up your revision and will save time.
• Practice problems for Accounts, MAFA and Costing because it is very important that you complete the answer as fast as possible. In the paper, there will be some questions which you know and there will be some other questions which are new or tricky. If you have practiced enough, you will save much time on the questions which aren’t new or tricky.
• Try to complete 100 marks paper for each subject.
• It is better to have a target of getting 60 marks minimum in each subject. Have faith in god and yourself. Always believe you can do it.

Along with studies I used to listen music and play cricket every Sunday. Remember it is very important to keep your mind relaxed.
